Jesse and Leslie

Leslie Burke is quite a positive, imaginative and creative person. She seldom thinks of sad and bad things. She is not afraid of people gossiping behind her back. She pretends that she cannot hear what the people say and doesn't care about what they say at all. She is friendly, kind and helpful.

Jesse Aarons is shy. He is an introvert. Gary and his classmates always bully him. He doesn't have any friends at school until he meets Leslie. He uses his imagination to create his own world. He likes drawing but his dad doesn't appreciate his art nor his artistic talent.

~ Ruby Chan

There are many differences between Jesse and Leslie.
1) Leslie is very brave but Jess is very scared of things or strange places.
Evidence: Leslie swings across the river on the enchanted rope first. She is interested in
things in Terabithia. However, Jess wants to leave Terabithia immediately.

2)Leslie is more imaginative than Jesse.
Evidence: Leslie uses her imagination to create Terabithia. Jess is unable to see the things
Leslie describes at first.

The most obvious difference is their sex. Jess is a boy and Leslie is a girl. Both of them are imaginative and have different characters. Jesse is a boy who likes to draw. He especially likes to draw crazy-looking animals. Jesse is also quite lazy sometimes. He will do his chores only when his mom starts nagging him. Jesse sees life negatively. Leslie, on the other hand, always looks at things from a different angle and is always positive. She is quite unusual for a girl, who enjoys scuba-diving as a hobby and is keen on exploring the deep, dark blue places of the sea. She also loves reading and using her imagination. Terabithia is a magical kingdom she has created out of her imagination. (She has probably read Narnia) Although Jesse and Leslie are different in characters, they become best friends because of their differences.

~ Chloe Lam

Leslie is a smart and attentive girl. She always pays attention to her teachers and things happening around her. She is courageous and persistent. She is always prepared for adventures and new and exciting things. For instance, she is very excited when she sees the enchanted rope hanging over the gully and is so eager to swing across with it. She always thinks positively when faced with problems and she always manages to sort them out calmly and rationally.

Jess is an imaginative and artistic boy. He likes to express himself through his drawing. He draws pictures that are extraordinary. Most of the time he appears to be passive and timid. He avoids challenges except races at lunch. He loves running and has been known as the fastest kid in his grade. Sometimes he is indecisive. It may take him a long time to make a decision.

Jess and Leslie are the two main characters in Bridge to Terabithia. They have many similarities and differences. The differences between them are: First, Leslie is very brave but Jess is spineless. This can be seen in their different reaction towards swinging across the river on the enchanted rope. Leslie cant wait to go first while Jess is hesitating. Second, Leslie has a good relationship with her parents but Jess always disagrees with his. Last but not least, Leslie learns many things from books but Jess doesnt read much. He learns things from images and artwork.

Jesse Aarons, a 5th grader at Lark Creek Elementary, is an artistic boy. He is a scaredycat while his friend and neighbour Leslie Burke is always up for adventures and challenges. Not only is she brave and out-going, Leslie is also very smart. Her essay impresses Mrs Myers very much. Jesse on the other hand, is not very keen on writing. Jesse is very good at drawing and draws extremely beautiful pictures. Despite their differences, Jesse and Leslie some how make a perfect pair of best freinds.
